Hello from Tahiti!

Yesterday we flew to Tahiti! We took a flight from Salt Lake to LA and then LA to Tahiti! At the airport I met some Italian people and got to talk with them which was awesome!!

Tahiti is so beautiful! I can understand a lot of French which is great, although it's weird to not really be able to speak English anymore. The humidity here hit us when we got off the plane but I'm already used to it!

I got to go but just wanted to say I'm doing well! Talk to  you Monday!

 Ieri abbiamo preso l'aereo per Tahiti! Abbiamo preso un volo da Salt Lake City per Los Angeles e poi un altro da Los Angeles per Tahiti! All'aereoporto ho incontrato degli italiani e ho parlato con loro il che è stato bellissimo!!

Tahiti è così bella! Posso capire un bel po' di francese il che è stupendo anche se è strano non poter parlare più inglese. L'umidità qui ci ha preso in pieno appena scesi dall'aereo ma mi ci sono già abituata!

Devo andare ma volevo solo dire che sto bene! Ci sentiamo lunedì!

Weekly Email 6: TAHITI I'M COMING!

It's been another amazing week at the MTC! I'm going to start off with the funny moments because there were some good ones.

1. On Tuesday Elder Sagers ate EIGHT doughnuts for breakfast. His metabolism is insane and he says he hasn't gained a pound in three years. Every morning he has three doughnuts but he decided to see if he could eat eight. He ate the first six in like ten minutes. At one point it looked like he was going to throw up but then he finished off the last two! What a legend. 

2. I timed myself saying the Missionary Purpose in Tahitian and I can say it in 12 seconds! And I can say it in 6 seconds in French! In Tahitian it's "A ani manihini i te mau taata ia haerai mai e i te Mesia na roto i te tauturaa ia ratou ia farii i te evanelia tei faaho'i-faahouhia mea na roto i te faroo ia Iesua Mesia e i Ta'na taraehara, te tatarahapa, te bapetizohia, e te fariiraa i te horo'a O te Varua Maitai, e i te tape'raa i tea noa'tu i te hopea ra". Yup I can say that in 12 seconds! They didn't call me Motor Mouth in 3rd grade for nothing :)

3. Monday night the fire alarm went off at 10 pm in my residence hall because someone walked out a door that says "do not open door or alarm will go off"....we had to wait outside for 30 minutes hahaha all the foreign missionaries were super confused.

4. My teacher said the other day that since I'm a solo sister with 7 elders that it's like Snow White and the 7 dwarves hahahaha 

Well this is it! In 3 days I'll be in Tahiti!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it! I have absolutely loved my time here at the MTC. I have felt the Spirit so strong and have learned so much. In this short month my life has already changed immensely. I have met the most amazing people and have already made friends for life. I know it will just keep getting better! In my first district I really learned how to teach well and how to teach by the Spirit, and that is so important. In my second district I learned the importance of pressing forward through all things and NEVER giving up. I have loved my mission so far SO much. I'm so excited to now be able to experience everything Tahiti has to offer! It still hasn't really sunk in yet that I'm going there!

On Monday I was role playing with Elder Taylor. I was being the missionary and he was playing an investigator who doesn't see why they need the Gospel because they think life is good already. So to teach him I showed him my photo book and explained how my life has been better because of the Gospel. Life is SO much better when we have Christ and God in it! Everything good in my life, my friends, my family, BYU, my mission, etc. have all come because I'm a member of this church! Prayer, scripture study, service, the temple, church and so many other things have brought me so much joy and love! When talking about it I just got so happy! I felt like I was on fire with pure joy. When Elder Taylor was evaluating me at the end he was like "Wow! You were radiating during that!". I know the Gospel brings pure and lasting joy. I have seen it in my life time and time again. I am so grateful for it and so excited to be able to bring this joy to the people of Tahiti! 

Next time you hear from me I'll be somewhere in the Pacific! In Tahiti P-day is Monday, and since I'm traveling this up coming Monday I don't know if I'll be able to write again before October 2! I also won't have an iPad anymore after the MTC so I won't be able to read emails during the week anymore. 

From the day I opened my mission call nothing about my mission has gone the way I planned...it's been so much better!! I'm so grateful that I have a loving Heavenly Father in charge of my life who knows way better than I do! I didn't know how good it could get until He gave it to me!

Questa è stata un'altra settimana incredibile al MTC! Comincerò con le situazioni da ridere perché ce ne sono state di belle.

1. Martedì Anziano Sagers ha mangiato OTTO ciambelle per colazione. Ha un metabolismo pazzesco e ha detto che non ha messo su neanche un chilo negli ultimi tre anni. Ogni mattina mangia tre ciambelle ma ha voluto vedere se potesse riuscire a mangiarne otto. Ha mangiato le prime sei in dieci minuti. A un certo punto sembrava come se stesse per vomitare ma poi ha finito le ultime due! Mitico!

2. Ho calcolato il tempo che impiego a ripetere Lo Scopo di un Missionario  in taitiano e riesco a dirlo in 12 secondi! E riesco a farlo in 6 secondi in francese! In taitiano è "A ani manihini i te mau taata ia haerai mai e i te Mesia na roto i te tauturaa ia ratou ia farii i te evanelia tei faaho'i-faahouhia mea na roto i te faroo ia Iesua Mesia e i Ta'na taraehara, te tatarahapa, te bapetizohia, e te fariiraa i te horo'a O te Varua Maitai, e i te tape'raa i tea noa'tu i te hopea ra". Sì, posso dirlo in 12 secondi! Non mi hanno soprannominata "Bocca Motorino" in terza elementare senza motivo :)

3. Lunedì notte l'allarme antincendio è partito alle 22 nel mio dormitorio perché qualcuno è uscito dalla porta dove c'è scritto "Non aprire o scatta l'allarme"... Abbiamo dovuto aspettare fuori 30 minuti ahahah, tutti i missionari stranieri erano super confusi.

4. La mia insegnante ha detto l'altro giorno che dato che sono una Sorella sola con 7 Anziani è come se fossi Biancaneve con i Sette Nani ahahaahahah

 Ebbene, il momento è arrivato! Tra 3 giorni sarò a Tahiti!!!!!!! Non ci credo! Ho assolutamente amato ogni momento qui al MTC. Ho sentito lo Spirito così forte e ho imparato così tanto. In questo breve mese la mia vita è già cambiata immensamente. Ho incontrato le persone più speciali e ho già stretto amicizie per il resto della vita. So che andrà sempre meglio! Nel mio primo distretto ho imparato davvero come insegnare bene e come insegnare con lo Spirito il che è molto importante. Nel mio secondo distretto ho imparato l'importanza di andare avanti nonostante tutto e di non mollare MAI. Ho amato la mia missione COSÍ TANTO finora. Sono così emozionata ora di poter sperimentare tutto quello che Tahiti ha da offrire! Non riesco ancora del tutto a capacitarmi che ci sto andando veramente!

Lunedì scorso ho simulato una lezione con Anziano Taylor. Io facevo la missionaria e lui svolgeva il ruolo della persona che non vede l'importanza del Vangelo perché pensa che la vita vada già bene. Così per insegnare a lui questo concetto gli ho mostrato il mio album fotografico e gli ho spiegato come la mia vita è stata migliore proprio per il Vangelo. La vita è COSÍ migliore quando abbiamo Gesù Cristo e Dio! Tutte le cose buone che ho nella mia vita, i miei amici, la mia famiglia, BYU, la mia missione, ecc. sono una conseguenza dell'essere membro di questa chiesa! La preghiera, lo studio delle scritture, il servizio, il tempio, la chiesa e tante altre cose mi hanno portato così tanta gioia e amore! Quando ne parlo divento così contenta! Mi sentivo  infervorata da pura gioia. Quando Anziano Taylor mi ha valutato alla fine ha detto "Oh! Eri davvero radiosa mentre parlavi!" So che il Vangelo porta gioia pura ed eterna. L'ho visto nella mia vita così tante volte. Ne sono grata e sono così emozionata di poter portare questa gioia alla gente di Tahiti!

La prossima volta che avrete mie notizie sarò da qualche parte nel Pacifico! A Tahiti il P-day è lunedì e poiché viaggerò questo lunedì non so se potrò scrivere di nuovo prima del 2 ottobre! Inoltre non avrò più l'iPad dopo il MTC e quindi non potrò più leggere gli email durante la settimana.

Dal giorno in cui ho aperto la mia chiamata in missione niente è andato come avevo programmato... perché è andato molto meglio!! Sono così grata di avere un Padre Celeste amorevole che si prende cura della mia vita meglio di quanto possa fare io! Non sapevo quanto bene sarebbe andata fino a che Lui non me l'ha concesso!

Grazie a tutti per l'amore, il sostegno e gli email! Vi amo e mi mancate tutti e amo avere gli aggiornamenti!

Weekly Email 5: T-minus 10 days until Tahiti?!

Another great week at the MTC! The days feel super long here sometimes but the weeks fly by! Today I got my travel intinerary for Tahiti which is INSANE. I leave September 25 and will arrive in Tahiti that night at 10pm! I'm going to be the only sister traveling with 15 elders so pray for me ;) I've been here at the MTC for a month and it has seriously been life changing. Not every moment has been easy but I've loved it!

It's crazy looking back to last week and remembering how much I was struggling initially because things are so great now! Starting Tahitian was super overwhelming for me and starting over in a new zone was hard as well. Some moments were really challenging but through prayers and scripture study God helped me through! Things don't always get better instantly, but God will always be by our side until they do! And now I'm happy to say that this week has been really great! I'm happy for the challenge because I learned a lot and got a lot closer to my Father in Heaven. And I am very happy here! Tahitian is still hard but everyday I am getting better, slowly but surely. My companion Sister Bready is AWESOME. We are such good friends and she is a blessing. We are always laughing and having fun! The other sisters in the zone are awesome as well! So life is good! Being a solo sister is still weird sometimes but the Elders are seriously the best! It's like I got 6 new brothers hahah 

My new district is Elder Taylor and Elder Miller (who have been friends since 3rd grade and are also companions! Crazy!), Elder Kerr, Elder Ashworth, Elder Schill (who was fast tracked with me), Elder Brown, and Elder Sagers. 

This week we got to do TRC with real Tahitian people!!!! At first I was nervous because I can't really speak Tahitian. But as soon as I stepped into the room I felt such a huge love for those people and I didn't even know them. It was amazing. I couldn't help but give them all big hugs! This is what a mission is about- the people! They make it all worth it! I can't wait to meet everyone in Tahiti. 

Funny Moments:

1. Elder Schill somehow got a clothespin onto my dress sleeve without me noticing. I was very confused when I realized it was there.

2. I was doing grammar practice with Elder Miller and I asked him what the word for plant was in Tahitian. He thought for a moment and then said "I think it's prantatoia". So I wrote it down in my notebook and was using it in my practice sentences. Then after 10 minutes Elder Miller was like "Hey I actually made that word up, it doesn't mean anything". It was so funny hahaha Elder Miller is such a jokester but he has such a good straight face that it's hard to tell when he's kidding.

There's a lot that happens that makes me laugh but it's hard to remember off the top off my head so that's all!

Spiritual Thoughts: 

Before my mission I didn't really read the scriptures much and I wish I could go back in time and yell at myself. I LOVE the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon! I was seriously missing out by not reading them! They are so awesome and we can receive so much strength and guidance from them. So don't make the same mistake I did! 

It's easy to compare yourself to others in life but that's no way to measure progress! All you can do is try your best. That's all God wants, especially on a mission. It's so easy to recognize our weaknesses and not our strengths so be kind to yourself and be positive! God loves you and you are capable of amazing things! 

It's crazy how even though I've barely had time to study French here at the MTC I have felt myself improving! I know it's because God is helping me! 

I'm so grateful for my mission and everything it's already taught me. I love everyone I've met and I know it will just keep getting better. I love Jesus Christ, He is our brother, Savior, and friend. I am so grateful to be His representative! Life is amazing! Don't forget to enjoy every day!

Un'altra grande settimana al MTC! Le giornate sembrano superlunghe qui a volte ma le settimane volano! Oggi ho avuto il mio itinerario di volo per Tahiti che è PAZZESCO. Parto il 25 settembre ed arriverò quella sera a Tahiti alle 10! Sarò l'unica Sorella a viaggiare con 15 Anziani così pregate per me ;) Sono qui al MTC da un mese ed è stata sul serio un'esperienza che mi ha cambiato la vita. Non sempre è stato facile ma ho amato ogni momento!

È pazzesco ripensare alla scorsa settimana e ricordare quanto abbia stentato all'inizio perché ora va tutto alla grande! Iniziare il taitiano è stato molto sconvolgente per me e ricominciare in un'altra zona è stato pure difficile. Alcuni momenti sono stati davvero duri ma grazie alla preghiera e allo studio delle Scritture Dio mi ha aiutato! Le cose non migliorano sempre istantaneamente, ma Dio sarà sempre al nostro fianco finché non andrà meglio! E ora sono felice di dire che questa settimana è stata davvero grande! Sono grata per questa sfida perché ho imparato molto e mi sono molto avvicinata al mio Padre nei Cieli. E sono molto felice qui! Il taitiano è ancora molto difficile ma miglioro ogni giorno, lentamente ma sicuramente. La mia collega Sorella Bready è MERAVIGLIOSA. Siamo così buone amiche e lei è una benedizione. Ridiamo sempre e ci divertiamo sempre! Le altre sorelle della zona sono bravissime anche! Così la vita va benone! Essere una Sorella sola è ancora strano a volte ma gli Anziani sono davvero i migliori! È come se avessi 6 nuovi fratelli ahahah

Il mio nuovo distretto è composto da Anziano Taylor ed Anziano Miller (che sono amici dalla terza elementare e sono anche colleghi! Pazzesco!), Anziano Kerr, Anziano Ashworth, Anziano Schill (che è arrivato con me), Anziano Brown ed Anziano Sagers.

Questa settimana abbiamo insegnato a taitiani veri!!!!! All'inizio ero nervosa perché non parlo ancora il taitiano. Ma non appena sono entrata nella stanza ho sentito un tale amore per queste persone anche se non le conoscevo nemmeno. È stato incredibile. Non ho potuto fare a meno di dare loro dei grossi abbracci! La missione è sostanzialmente questo: avere a che fare con la gente! Ne fanno valere la pena! Non vedo l'ora di incontrare le persone a Tahiti.

Situazioni da ridere:

1. L'Anziano Schill ha attaccato in qualche modo una molletta alla manica del mio vestito senza che io me ne accorgessi. Ero molto confusa quando mi sono accorta che stava lì.

2. Stavo facendo pratica di grammatica con l'Anziano Mill e gli ho chiesto come si dicesse pianta in taitiano. Ci ha pensato un po' su e poi ha detto "Penso che sia prantatoia". Così l'ho scritto nel mio taccuino e l'usato nelle frasi di pratica. Poi dopo 10 minuti Anziano Miller mi ha detto "Ehi, in realtà ho inventato io quella parola, non significa niente". È stato proprio da ridere ahahah. Anziano Miller è un pagliaccio ma ha una faccia così tosta che è difficile capire quando sta scherzando.

Ci sono un sacco di cose che succedono e che mi fanno venire da ridere ma mi è difficile ricordarle tutte ora così questo è tutto!

Pensieri spirituali:

Prima della missione non ho letto molto le scritture e vorrei tanto poter tornare indietro nel tempo per sgridarmi. AMO le scritture, specialmente il libro di Mormon! Ho davvero perso molto a non leggerle! Sono speciali e possiamo ricevere tanta forza e guida. Così non fate lo stesso errore che ho fatto io!

È facile confrontarsi con gli altri nella vita ma non c'è un modo per misurare il progresso! Tutto quello che possiamo fare è fare del nostro meglio. Questo è tutto ciò che Dio vuole, specialmente in missione. È facile riconoscere le nostre debolezze e non le nostre forze così siate gentili con voi stessi e siate positivi! Dio vi ama e siete capaci di fare cose incredibili!

È pazzesco come anche se ho avuto pochissimo tempo per studiare il francese qui al MTC mi rendo conto che sono migliorata! So che è perché Dio mi sta aiutando!

Sono così grata per la mia missione e tutto ciò che mi ha già insegnato. Amo tutti quelli che ho incontrato e so che andrà sempre meglio. Amo Gesù Cristo, Egli è nostro fratello, Salvatore e amico. Sono così grata di essere una sua rappresentante! La vita è incredibile! Non dimenticate di assaporare

ogni giorno!
