Weekly Email 2: Another week in Paradise ;)

Ia orana! Bonjour tout le monde!! 

Another great week at the MTC!! So much happens but I'll try my best to summarize! 

SUCCESS! Saturday during lunch I found the Tahitian district that entered the MTC on July 26! I think it's about ten Elders, turns out I'm the only Sister in this group! That'll be interesting! 

Whenever I see Italian missionaries around I get excited and yell CIAO ANZIANO or CIAO SORELLA!

I met some French sisters too in the French zone! When I was talking to them I kind of wished in the moment I was in their classes, because it'd make practicing French 10x easier. But I love my English ADL district with all my heart and I don't want to be anywhere else! I can't imagine this MTC experience without them! God definitely knew what he was doing when he put us all together! If it means I have to learn French on my own then so be it! God won't let me fall behind as long as I work hard.

Zone: A zone is a group of districts! My zone is the bomb because it's all the international missionaries that come to the MTC to learn English! My zone leader is from Chile and he's SO funny! The STLs are from the Philippines and Indonesia and they're hilarious too, Sister Ambas reminds us all of Edna Mode from the Incredibles. In my zone there's also an Elder from Tahiti!! His name's Elder Purahui and his companion is Elder Morales from Nantes, France! They're both going to Montreal on their missions. It's fun to talk to them in French! I also talked to Elder Purahui's Tahitian friend and guess what!! I understood him and we were able to have a conversation WOOHOO!! All the foreign missionaries are so sweet, especially the Sisters! They love to come in my dorm and to look at my photo wall hahah 

Teaching:  We've done a lot of teaching this past week! My trio taught for the first time together last Saturday and it's crazy to see how much we've improved in just a short week! I love learning and growing together. I love my trio!! We are a team! Our teacher says we always teach together super well! We've been able to teach some investigators through TRC and it's AWESOME! We also do role plays with our teacher but those are great too. I always feel the Spirit and it's cool to see how when I don't know what to say the Spirit sends me promptings! Even if my whole mission was just to stay at the MTC and teach people here I would LOVE it!! I feel very comfortable teaching in English! It's harder in French but I'm learning! My sentences are very simple compared to when I teach in English but that's ok, simple can be powerful! 

Funny Moments: Everyday in my journal I have about 5 or 6 funny moments from my day but I'll try to pick the best ones from this week! 

1. On Sunday we had a meeting with the Sisters and the person in charge said David Archuleta was giving the musical number. Everyone started freaking out but it turns out it was just a video hahaha

2. Sister Guzman is always cold even though it's 85 here! She wears her coat sometimes and a scarf to bed! She always says Honduras is very very hot, I can't even imagine! The sun here in Provo is hot enough for me!

3. Monday was the Solar Eclipse so everyone was walking around with their glasses! Elder Jeppensen let me borrow his so I could look at the sun!

4. Whenever me and the other Sisters call each other we always say "Seeeester!" 

5. Someone sent me doughnuts on Wednesday! When I was walking by an Elder from New Zealand yelled out "Hey Sister! I've never had a doughnut in my entire life!" because he wanted me to give him one 

6. The other day I was explaining to my district what a Gray Nasty is. Apparently it's just a Westford term. It's when you wear gray on gray. As I was saying that a sister walked by wearing a gray shirt with gray shorts in the gym..AWKWARD

I wish I could write all our funny moments but this email would go on forever! I have SO much fun with my district, we're always laughing! And when it's time to get serious we do and we learn so much together! I feel so blessed to have them and my sweet companions and awesome teachers!

What I learned: 

 "Not today, Satan!" As missionaries Satan attacks us even harder because he knows the good we can do. He sends us doubts, insecurities, fears, and stress. Any negative thought we have about ourselves is from him! SO DON'T LISTEN! Satan LIES because he knows our weak spots. He wants you to feel bad and get down on yourself! Next time he tries to get to you push him out and say "Not today, Satan!". He's a loser and we have way more power than him ;)

Ahhh I'm running out of time! THANK YOU everyone for all the letters, emails, and packages! I feel so loved and the support makes my heart feel so full! I hope to make you all proud! I'll try my best to answer everyone but know that I always read mail right away even though I can't answer until Friday!

Some might see a mission as a sacrifice. But I don't! I'm not sacrificing anything! The Lord is giving me the best present ever by allowing me to be his representative for a short 18 months! It is such a privilege. These past 9 days have been the best of my life! Everyday I learn, grow, laugh, and feel joy and love. What more could you want? ;)

Un'altra grandiosa settimana al Centro di Addestramento dei Missionari (MTC)!! Succedono tante cose ma farò del mio meglio per riassumere!

SUCCESSO! Sabato durante il pranzo ho trovato il distretto di Tahiti che è entrato nel MTC  il 26 luglio! Penso che ci siano in tutto 10 Anziani, ho scoperto che sono l'unica Sorella di questo gruppo! Questo sì che sarà interessante!

Ogni volta che vedo i missionari italiani in giro sono tutta emozionata e grido CIAO ANZIANO o CIAO SORELLA!

Ho anche incontrato alcune sorelle francesi nella zona francese! Mentre parlavo con loro ho quasi desiderato in quel momento di essere in classe con loro, perché sarebbe stato 10 volte più facile praticare francese con loro. Ma amo il mio distretto di inglese ADL con tutto il mio cuore e non voglio essere da nessun'altra parte! Non riesco ad immaginare questa esperienza al MTC senza di loro! Dio sapeva sicuramente quello che stava facendo quando ci ha messo tutti insieme! Se questo significa che devo imparare il francese da sola che ben venga! Dio non mi farà rimanere indietro se io lavoro duro. 

Zona: Una zona è un gruppo di distretti! La mia zona è una bomba perché è tutta composta da missionari internazionali che vengono al MTC per imparare l'inglese! Il mio capozona viene dal Cile ed è COSÌ comico! Le Sister Training Leaders (STLs) vengono dalle Filippine e dall'Indonesia e anche loro sono molto spassose, Sorella Ambas ci ricorda Edna Mode degli Incredibili. Nella mia zona c'è anche un Anziano da Tahiti!! Si chiama Anziano Purahui e il suo collega è l'anziano Morales di Nantes, in Francia! Stanno andando entrambi in missione a Montreal. È forte parlare con loro in francese! Ho anche parlato con l'amico taitiano di Anziano Purahui e indovinate cosa!! L'ho capito e siamo stati in grado di avere una conversazione, EVVIVA!! Tutti i missionari stranieri sono così dolci, soprattutto le Sorelle! Amano venire nella mia stanza a guardare tutte le mie foto sul muro ahaha.

Insegnamento: Abbiamo insegnato molto la settimana scorsa! Il mio trio ha insegnato per la prima volta insieme sabato scorso ed è pazzesco vedere quanto abbiamo migliorato solo in una breve settimana! Amo imparare e crescere insieme. Amo il mio trio!!! Siamo una squadra! Il nostro insegnante dice che insegnamo sempre benissimo! Abbiamo potuto insegnare a qualche simpatizzante su Skype (TRC) ed è BELLISSIMO! Facciamo anche delle prove con il nostro insegnante ma anche queste sono molto belle. Sento sempre lo Spirito ed è forte vedere come lo Spirito mi mandi i suggerimenti quando non so cosa dire! Anche se tutta la mia missione fosse limitata a stare al MTC e ad insegnare alle persone qui sarebbe per me SPECIALE!!! Mi sento molto a mio agio ad insegnare in inglese! È più difficile in francese ma sto imparando! Le mie frasi sono molto semplici paragonate a quando insegno in inglese ma va bene, semplice può essere efficace!

Momenti Divertenti: Ogni giorno nel mio diario ho circa 5 o 6 episodi divertenti della mia giornata ma cercherò di prendere i migliori di questa settimana!

1. Domenica abbiamo fatto una riunione con le Sorelle e la persona responsabile ha detto che David Archuleta avrebbe fatto il numero musicale. Tutte abbiamo cominciato a dare di testa ma poi è venuto fuori che si trattava solo di un video ahahah.
2. Sorella Guzman ha sempre freddo anche se ci sono 30C qui! A volte dorme con la giacca e la sciarpa! Dice sempre che in Honduras fa molto, molto caldo e non riesco proprio ad immaginarlo! Il sole qui a Provo è abbastanza caldo per me!
3.  Lunedì c'è stata l'eclissi solare e quindi tutti andavano in giro con gli occhiali! L'Anziano Jeppensen mi ha prestato i suoi così ho potuto guardare il sole!
4. Ogni volta che io e le altre sorelle ci chiamiamo diciamo sempre "Seeeester!"
5. Qualcuno mi ha mandato dei doughnuts (ciambelle della zona di Boston) mercoledì! Mentre camminavo un anziano della Nuova Zelanda ha gridato "Ehi, Sorella! Non ho mai mangiato un doughnut nella mia intera vita!" perché voleva che gliene dessi uno.
6. L'altro giorno ho spiegato al mio distretto cosa significa Gray Nasty. A quanto pare è un termine usato a Westford. È quando si indossa il grigio sul grigio. Mentre dicevo così una sorella è passata con una maglietta e pantaloncini grigi in palestra... STRANO

Magari potessi scrivere di più  sui nostri momenti buffi ma questo email non finirebbe più! Mi diverto COSÌ tanto con il mio distretto, ridiamo sempre! E quando arriva il momento di essere seri lo siamo e impariamo così tanto insieme! Mi sento così benedetta ad avere loro, le mie dolci colleghe e i miei bravi insegnanti !

Cosa ho imparato:

"Non oggi, Satana!". Come missionari Satana ci attacca anche di più perché conosce il bene che possiamo fare. Ci manda dubbi, insicurezze, paure e stress. Ogni pensiero negativo che abbiamo su di noi viene da lui! ALLORA NON ASCOLTATE! Satana MENTE perché conosce i nostri punti deboli. Vuole che vi sentiate male e scoraggiati! La prossima volta che punta su di voi allontanatelo e dite "Non oggi, Satana!". È un perdente e noi abbiamo molto più potere di lui ;)

Ahhh, sono a corto di tempo! GRAZIE per tutte le lettere, email e i pacchi! Mi sento così amata e il mio cuore è così pieno! Spero di rendervi tutti fieri! Farò del mio meglio per rispondere a tutti ma sappiate  che leggo sempre la mia posta subito anche se non posso rispondere fino a venerdì!

Alcuni possono vedere la missione come un sacrificio. Ma io no! Non sto sacrificando niente! Il Signore mi sta dando il miglior regalo possibile permettendomi di rappresentarlo per 18 brevi mesi! È un così grande privilegio. Questi ultimi 9 giorni sono stati i migliori della mia vita! Ogni giorno imparo, cresco, rido e provo gioia e amore. Cos'altro potrei volere? ;)

Day 3 at the MTC!

Hello everyone! 

Well for some reason my emails won't send to everyone on my list, there's about 20 people who aren't getting them. Sorry! I'll try to figure it out, I might just have too many people on it.

Btw so I can write emails on Friday! I have an iPad for now so I can read emails during the week I just can't answer until Friday! 

I LOVE THE MTC!! WOOO 

It rocks! Everyone is so kind and friendly and there's just so much unity and love here. I'm so so happy everyday. The Provo MTC is the biggest in the world which is so cool! Every Wednesday 700 new missionaries come in and 20,000 pass through every year! Right now there's about 2,000/3,000ish missionaries. There's people from all over and people going all over! Over 60 languages are taught here! I met a Sister studying Estonian and an Elder studying Madagascarian. I also met a super nice elder from Mongolia learning English and a Brazilian sister going to the Boston Mission!! My teacher Brother Cowley is the best and he knows like 7 languages so he's pretty cool. I love my Branch President too! His grandson and family lived in the Acton Ward! (shoutout to my Acton church friends). Also I see sooo many people from BYU here!

Companions: So for those that don't know missionaries get assigned a companion. Usually it's just pairs but since we have an odd number of girls I'm in a trio! My companions are Sister Sukhan from West Jordan, Utah and she is going to the Thailand Bangkok Mission! My other companion is Sister Guzman from Honduras, she is going to the Canada Vancouver Mission speaking English! I LOVE them!! They are just the best and I'm so blessed to be with them. We have a whole room to ourselves (yay!) and the other two sisters in the district (our group) are next door. Also yesterday I was assigned to be Senior Companion!

District: So our District is called the English ADL group. That means we're missionaries all going to different missions so our classes are taught in English. This is very unusual because most of the time your district is just your mission and it's taught all in your mission language. We were put in this group because we're "advanced". None of us feel advanced though and proficient enough in our language, so this caused some stress and frustration. Studying your language on your own is a lot harder. However we talked about it at length with our teacher and I know we can do it if we study hard and have faith! My district is Sister Leasoon from Samoa! She is going to the California Oakland Mission speaking Samoan. Then there's Sister Atkins who is from Canada and going to Barbados speaking French. Elder Fakahoa (I think?) is from Utah and is going to California as well speaking Tongan! Elder Schill is from Virginia and is going to Tahiti as well!! Elder Jeppensen and Elder West are from Utah and Connecticut and are both going to Barbados speaking French. I love them all so much! They are great examples to me and we have such a good time together! I know I'm in the exact group I need to be, even though it's hard not being in the French group. At least I have four other French missionaries to help me study! I haven't found the other Tahitian missionaries yet but I will!

Funny Moments: 

- I got my language packet yesterday, it's the biggest one they make since it's for Tahitian and French! I swear it's like 20 or 30 pounds. Everyone stared at me as I walked by because it was so huge and I felt like I was carrying a small child. 

- So someone left a Frozen Fudge Bar in my desk! It had been there who knows how many days or week and completely melted!! I picked it up and it started leaking gross brown liquid. It smelled sooooo bad, like vinegar. Ew. 

What I learned: 

1. Faith Without Fear: I was getting stressed about learning French and everyone else was too since we have to do a lot on our own. But I realized we just need to have faith. God put us in this district for a reason. We will have to push each other and work hard but together we can do it! There cannot be faith with fear so I will let go of my fear. We CAN and WILL learn this language! God will help us, I have no doubt about that. I want to look at this and say "I get to learn French better, how fun!" instead of "I have to learn French, ugh".

2. Step by Step: Missionaries have super packed and busy schedules and it's easy to feel overwhelmed, like you have too much to do and not enough time. So I just remind myself to take it step by step. The Lord is also here to help us! We can unload our stresses and worries onto Him, he can lift them from us! 

Sorry if this email is long, there's just so much to tell you guys about! We do so much every day and I can't believe I've only been here 3 days! I feel like I've been here 3 weeks!

Just know that I am so happy and so blessed to be here and I am loving EVERY second! God is good and life is GREAT!

Salve a tutti!

Ebbene per qualche motivo i miei email non arrivano a tutti quelli della mia lista, ci sono circa 20 persone che non li stanno ricevendo. Scusate! Cercherò di capirne il perché, probabilmente ho solo troppi nomi sulla lista.

A proposito, posso scrivere gli email di venerdì! Ho un iPad al momento così posso leggere gli email durante la settimana ma non posso rispondere fino a venerdì!

AMO IL MTC!!! 

È troppo forte! Tutti sono così gentili e amichevoli e c'è così tanta unità e amore qui. Sono talmente felice ogni giorno. Il MTC (Centro Addestramento Missionari) è il più grande del mondo e questo è troppo forte! Ogni mercoledì arrivano 700 nuovi missionari e ci passano 20000 ogni anno! Al momento ci sono circa 2000/3000 missionari. C'è gente che viene da ogni parte diretta dappertutto! Oltre 60 lingue vengono insegnate qui! Ho incontrato una sorella che sta studiando l'estone e un Anziano che studia la lingua del Madagascar. Ho anche incontrato un anziano estremamente gentile della Mongolia che sta imparando l'inglese e una sorella brasiliana che va alla missione di Boston!! Il mio insegnante Fratello Cowley è il migliore e conosce forse 7 lingue così lui è davvero in gamba. Amo anche il mio Presidente di Ramo! Suo nipote viveva con  la sua famiglia nel Rione di Acton! (Urrà per i miei amici della chiesa ad Acton). Inoltre vedo così tante persone di BYU qui!

Colleghe: Per quelli che non lo sanno ai missionari viene assegnato un collega. Solitamente si tratta di coppie ma poiché abbiamo un numero dispari di sorelle sono in un trio! Le mie colleghe sono Sorella Sukhan di West Jordan, Utah e sta andando alla missione di Bangkok in Tailandia! La mia altra collega è Sorella Guzman dell' Honduras, sta andando nella missione di Vancouver in Canada e parlerà inglese! LE AMO!! Sono davvero le migliori e sono così benedetta a stare con loro. Abbiamo una camera intera per noi (evviva!) e le altre due sorelle del distretto (il nostro gruppo) stanno alla porta accanto. Inoltre ieri sono stata assegnata come collega maggiore!

Distretto : Allora il nostro distrettto si chiama il gruppo di inglese ADL. Ciò significa che siamo tutti missionari che vanno in missioni differenti così le nostre classi sono insegnate in inglese. Questo è davvero insolito perché il più delle volte il tuo distretto è proprio quello della missione di assegnazione e gli insegnamenti sono nella lingua della missione. Siamo stati messi in questo gruppo perché siamo "avanzati". Nessuno di noi però si sente avanzato ed esperto abbastanza nella nostra lingua così questo provoca un po' di stress e frustrazione. Studiare la lingua della propria missione da soli è molto più difficile. Comunque parliamo a lungo con il nostro insegnante e so che possiamo farcela se studiamo sodo e abbiamo fede! Nel mio distretto c'è Sorella Leasoon della Samoa! Sta andando nella Missione di Oakland in California e parlerà samoano. Poi c'è Sorella Atkins che viene dal Canada e va nelle Barbados e parlerà francese. L'Anziano Fakahoa (penso?) è dello Utah e sta andando in California e parlerà il tongano! Anziano Schill viene dalla Virginia e sta andando anche lui a Tahiti!! L'Anziano Jeppensen e l'Anziano West sono dello Utah e del Connecticut e andranno entrambi alle Barbados e parleranno francese. Voglio loro così bene! Sono dei grandi esempi per me e stiamo così bene insieme! So di essere proprio nel gruppo in cui dovrei essere anche se è difficile non stare in quello francese. Almeno ho altri quattro missionari francesi che mi aiutano a studiare! Non ho ancora trovato gli altri missionari taitiani ma lo farò!

Momenti Buffi:

- Ho avuto ieri il mio pacco con i libri di lingua, è il più grande che fanno poiché è sia per il taitiano che il francese! Sarà almeno di 20 o 30 libbre (9 o 13 chili). Tutti mi guardavano mentre passavo perché era enorme e mi sembrava come se stessi portando un bambino.

-Qualcuno ha lasciato un gelato al cioccolato nel mio banco! Era rimasto lì non so da quanti giorni o settimane ed era completamente sciolto!! L'ho preso e ha cominciato a gocciolare un brutto liquido marrone. Puzzava tanto, come d'aceto, che schifezza.

Cosa ho imparato:

1. Fede Senza Paura: Mi stavo cominciando a stressare per il fatto di dover imparare il francese così come tutti gli altri poiché dobbiamo fare tanto da soli. Ma ho capito che dobbiamo avere fede. Dio ci ha messo in questo distretto per un motivo. Dovremo sostenerci a vicenda e lavorare duro ma insieme ce la possiamo fare! Non ci può essere fede senza paura così lascerò andare la mia paura. POSSIAMO IMPARARE questa lingua! Dio ci aiuterà, non ho dubbi a riguardo. Voglio guardare a ciò e dire "Posso imparare il francese meglio, che divertimento!" piuttosto che "Devo imparare il francese, mamma mia!".

2. Passo per Passo: I missionari hanno programmi molto serrati e impegnativi ed è facile sentirsi sopraffatti dalla sensazione che si ha troppo da fare e non abbastanza tempo. Così mi rammento di prenderla a  piccoli passi. Il Signore è anche qui per aiutarci! Possiamo scaricare il nostro stress e le nostre preoccupazioni su di Lui, ci può aiutare a sollevarli!

Scusate se ho scritto molto, ma c'è tanto da dirvi! Facciamo tante cose ogni giorno e non posso credere che sono stata qui solo 3 giorni! Mi sembra come di essere stata 3 settimane!

Sappiate che sono così felice e tanto benedetta ad essere qui da amarne OGNI secondo! Dio è buono e la vita va alla GRANDE!

Hello everyone!

I'm at the MTC! Been here one hour. Everything was super quick when I got dropped off, I said goodbye and then was whisked through to get my name tag and room key and all those good things.

I'm in a special district with missionaries from all over! All of us are in the advanced group. Only me and two other sisters have arrived at the moment, one is from Honduras and is going to Canada on her mission, speaking English. Another sister is from Canada and is going to her mission to Barbados speaking French! There should be about 9 other missionaries in our district, from all over and going all over! There's another missionary going to Tahiti too! Some are coming from Thailand and Korea! We'll all be doing class in English (since we're all international) and I'll study French on the side, then join the others for Tahitian in 3 weeks.

All is well! Love you! I'm so happy to be here!!

Ciao a tutti!

Sono qui al Centro di Addestramento dei Missionari! Sono qui da un'ora. Tutto è stato superveloce quando mi hanno lasciato e poi sono stata condotta velocemente a sbrigare cose come prendere la mia targhetta e la chiave della stanza.

Sono in un distretto speciale con missionari da tutte le parti! Tutti siamo nel gruppo avanzato. Solo io e due altre sorelle siamo arrivate finora, una viene dall'Honduras e sta andando in una missione di lingua inglese in Canada. L'altra sorella viene dal Canada e sta andando in missione nelle Barbados e parlerà francese! Ci dovrebbero essere circa 9 missionari nel nostro distretto provenienti da ogni parte del mondo e assegnati a servire in parti diverse del mondo! C'è anche un altro missionario che andrà a Tahiti! Alcuni stanno venendo dalla Tailandia e dalla Corea! Le nostre classi saranno in inglese (dal momento che siamo internazionali) e io studierò francese per poi unirmi agli altri per il taitiano tra tre settimane.

Va tutto bene! Vi voglio bene! Sono così contenta di essere qui!!
